Welcome to Pope County

Pope County is an agricultural based community, which also offers great tourism, outdoor recreation, and arts and culture. Explore this website for information that may be helpful in your business within County Government. Please take special note of the pictures on these pages, as all are taken within the boundaries of the County by a local photographer.

Pope County lies in the west central portion of Minnesota on the southern edge of the famous “Park Region” of the Northwest. It is bounded on the north by Douglas County; on the east by Stearns County; on the south by Kandiyohi and Swift Counties and on the west by Stevens County. Pope County encompasses an area of about 460,800 acres, or twenty congressional townships.

Glenwood was designated as the County Seat in 1866. The County is overseen by five county commissioners that are elected by district with staggered terms.

Young adults in Pope County can expect to receive an invitation to participate in an upcoming Young Adult Alcohol Survey. Pope County Public Health is working with Invitation Health Institute to mail surveys to individuals between 18 and 25 years of age during the month of April. Responses will be anonymous and results will be used to guide the design of local prevention strategies.

All individuals who complete a survey will be eligible for a drawing for one of two Kindle Fires. Recipients may choose to either fill out the hard copy mailed to them or take the survey online. Detailed instructions for completing the survey along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope will be provided.

The Young Adult Alcohol Survey is one component of Pope County’s Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive (SPF SIG) Grant, a project funded by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division.

For further information regarding the Young Adult Alcohol Survey or the SPF SIG project, please contact Renee Brandt with Pope County Public Health at 320-634-5009.
