Description

 General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate skilled work in a variety of road maintenance installation and repair projects and operates equipment in connection with tasks; does related work as required.  Work is performed under general supervision.

 

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Assisting with public works installation, maintenance and repair projects; operating equipment; performing a variety of unskilled and semiskilled work.

·       Operates a variety of heavy equipment, including tandem and single axle trucks, backhoe, front-end loaders, etc.

·       Assists with snow removal and ice control; escorts emergency vehicles in adverse weather conditions.

·       Performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks as a member of a crew.

·       Mows grass; helps pick up trash and debris; trims trees; installs landscaping.

·       Performs routine maintenance of assigned equipment; daily safety inspections.

·       Installation and removal of equipment needed for snow removal.

·       Performs public works building maintenance, including carpentry work, cement work, etc.

·       Operates shop equipment, including welders, torches, band-saws, drill-presses, grinders, etc.

·       Installs, repairs, and replaces signs, contacting utilities regarding locations of equipment.

·       Sets-up, maintains and inspects detour signs; maintains records of all signage; orders and stocks replacement parts; maintains sign truck and equipment.

·       Performs related tasks as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; skill in the use of hand tools and equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

 

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some maintenance experience.

 

Physical Requirements

This is very heavy work requiring the exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.  The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

 

Special Requirements

Possession of a commercial driver's license valid in the State of Minnesota required.   License for spraying restricted chemicals desired.

 

 

 


 

Location

The position is located in the City of Glenwood in Pope County, MN.  Glenwood is on the shores of Lake Minnewaska, less than two hours northwest of the Twin Cities and two hours southeast of Fargo.
