Birth and Death Records The Pope County Recorder’s Office has birth and death records from the 1870’s to present. Anyone can purchase plain copies of birth and death records, and must provide “tangible interest” to obtain certified copies of birth or death records. Tangible interest is a fraud prevention measure. It restricts access to certificates that are used for legal purposes. Certified Birth Record Application – Tangible Interest form (required) Pope County can print birth certificates for most people born in Minnesota through a Statewide system. For birth records prior to 1935, the Pope County Recorder can assist you, although it may take an extra day. Birth indexes for the entire State of Minnesota can be viewed on a public computer in the Pope County Recorder’s Office. To obtain information about birth records prior to 1935, contact the county where the birth occurred or the Pope County Recorder. Certified Death Record Application – Tangible Interest form (required) Pope County has access to death records of any person who died in Minnesota back to 1997 or any person who died in Pope County back to 1870. For death records outside of Pope County prior to 1997, contact the county registrar where the person died. Records are open to the public for viewing during regular business hours. Out-of-State Vitals Information If the record needed did not occur in the State of Minnesota, use the above link to a specific state. |
