Services and Responsibilities
The University of Minnesota Extension in Pope County is a county-based educational resource of the University of Minnesota. Its mission is connecting community needs and University resources. Extension takes the latest research from the University labs into people's lives - where they live, work and play. Extension is a partnership between the University and state, federal, and county governments to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public.
Educational programs are based on six areas of emphasis::

• Family
• Garden
• Youth
Extension faculty and staff reach Pope County and Minnesota residents each year through a variety of educational and applied research programs including the following examples:
• 4-H Youth Development Programs
• Extension Home Study Groups
• Master Gardeners
• Nutrition Education Programs
• Pope County Fair
• Private Pesticide Applicator Testing
• Farm Information Line
• Gardening Line
• Answer Line for Household Questions
• Outreach of the University of Minnesota
Pope County Extension staff includes: 4-H Program Coordinator, 2 Nutrition Education Assistants, and support staff. Pope County residents also have access to Extension staff and their expertise from around the state; as well as the West Central Research and Outreach Center and the University of Minnesota.
